Uptown-Galleria City Guide

Galleria apartments in Houston are centrally located just west of the 610 Loop, and extend westward. Uptown is also considered part of the Galleria area.  The Galleria consists of a retail complex and three office towers. Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom’s are three of the largest anchors that make up the Galleria itself. This area also features one of the busiest intersections in the United States. Congestion is normally a constant along the streets. It really doesn’t matter what time of day or night you visit the area. Expect traffic!

The actual Galleria mall was created and built by Gerald Hines in 1970. The mall initially had around 600,000 square feet of space. This first expansion of the mall began in 1976 and this was known as Galleria II. This section contained Lord & Taylor and office space. It was also regarded as the “Galleria Financial Center”. The year of 1986 brought about the third section known as Galleria III.  This new portion brought the total amount to 1.6 million total square feet. There have been many more changes that include store closings and openings.  In all, the Galleria attracts over 26 million individuals per year.

If you enjoy new construction, then Uptown is a great place to start. Many new communities boast fitness centers that rival that of a gym. They will come complete with treadmills, free weights, and plenty of flat screen television.  There is almost no limit to amenities and features in the newer apartments. Some of the new pool designs are fascinating, including beach entry and tanning decks.

Renter Demographics

Renters who choose to live in Uptown Houston are choosing a trendy lifestyle. Many of the newer Uptown apartments boast jaw-dropping amenities and features. These complexes cater to those who desire the latest fads. These renters also want to be minutes away from notable locations like Downtown, the Museums, and employment centers.  Many residents hold high paying positions that allow them to pay some of highest rents in the city. They demand fine restaurants, coffee shops, and the urban city life.

Apartment finders are very familiar with the Galleria area. Don’t worry about their fees. They are almost always free.  The Galleria is a great place to start your search as there are numerous options. You won’t have a problem finding pet-friendly Houston TX or nearby Uptown as possible options.

There are also plenty of older complexes that were built in the 60’s and 70’s. Remember that older properties generally require a lot of maintenance.  Management companies can be hit or miss. This simply means that you might be waiting quite awhile for repairs.

Can’t afford the Uptown rents but want to be close to everything that it provides? Look for apartment communities in a westward direction in the Woodlake or even Westchase District. There are many great options to choose from at more economical prices.

There aren’t many homes or private rentals for rent in the area, so apartments might be your best option. There are plenty of townhomes and private high rises.  Many communities will offer a “look and lease” special whereby if you submit an application after your tour, you will receive a month or 2 free. Sometimes these are too good to pass up.

After your tour the community, the leasing agent will want to see if you are interested in putting down a deposit and filling out the application. Make sure you have a form of acceptable payment, identification, and references. Although larger communities don’t require references, they cannot hurt.
