Montrose Neighborhood Guide
The Montrose area boasts one of the most unique and eclectic areas in the entire city. Not to be confused with Neartown, it certainly has its own vibe. Montrose apartments in Houston, TX are popular for a variety of reasons. The entertainment and lifestyle options in the area are unique, to say the least. Some say it’s just plain weird. Others love it.
Montrose only occupies 4 miles square miles. Many establishments are open 24 hours. These include restaurants and tattoo parlors. The area features old homes, strange clubs, and tree-lined streets. Many independent attorneys run their business from homes lining the neighborhood streets.
From specialty stores, quaint coffee shops, popular restaurants, Montrose has a little bit for everybody. It is also home to bed and breakfast businesses. For those who are looking for an urban location but are wanting to escape from the large commercialism that a big city like Houston contains, this area may just be for you.
Apartments Features in Montrose
Museum District apartments are extremely popular as are Downtown Houston apts, and the ever-popular Midtown area. Amenities and features are wide-ranging. Many Montrose apartments in Houston feature all the bells and whistles like granite counters, full size washer and dryers, and on-site pet parks.
Future residents will find large complexes and smaller private duplexes for rent. Some of the larger rental homes include brand new features like stained concrete flooring, island style kitchens with granite counters, and social spaces that include Yoga Studios and dynamic fitness centers.
Alternative Montrose Rentals
Other types of rental housing include duplexes, condos and private homes for rent. Garage apartments are extremely popular in this small section of town. They are harder to find as their landlords don’t do more than place a “vacant” sign in a window. Unless the interiors have been remodeled, they will be older and include basic essentials like carpeting, air conditioning, and ice-makers. Many times there is a community laundry room as opposed to having them directly in your apartment home.
How to Find Private Apartment Spaces
If you are looking for a private rental, chances are looking online won’t be your best bet. As stated earlier the private bungalows and duplexes are much harder to locate. The owners are just regular people who don’t have much advertising experience. Start driving around the area. Get out a pen and a piece of paper and start jotting down numbers. After you feel you have covered a large part of the area start making calls. You should have a large list of questions ready for the landlord.
Craigslist is also a good option when you are looking for that rental. But you will have to weed through hundreds of listings. The problem is there are many scams. But if you are determined, you will come across legitimate options like townhomes in Houston.
Remember private Montrose studios and rentals usually require that you put down a security deposit equal to one month’s rent. This is usually much more than your standard rental. Brace yourself, these places are old. The good news is that rentals that show their age are cheaper than their newer counterparts. Cheap accommodations in Montrose are still plentiful. If you need something will upgrades then you will want to stick with the large communities managed by companies like AMLI and Greystar. The latter complexes may have some furnished options for you.
Public Transportation in Montrose
If your contemplating on moving into the area you will need a vehicle. Although you will have great access to some of the more unique sections of town that are walkable, the only public transportation in the immediate area will be the busing system. The Midtown areas do have access to the Light Rail, but yet again, this is too far of a walk.
Montrose Recreational Activities
The Monrose Crawl is an annual event that takes place on the last Saturday in October. It’s sort of like a combo of trick or treating and a pub crawl. Be sure to don your best costume. There are contests and awards.
The inner loop has some of the highest concentration of apts in Houston in the entire city. It’s always a good idea to enlist the help of family, friends, and even real estate agents who can help you along the way. Be sure to bring a friend with you as you tour, many times they can offer your opinions and advice.
