Initially settled by European and German settlers in the 1800’s, they were drawn to the gorgeous pines and trees and beautiful pastures.  The city was founded by the Humble Oil and Refining Company.  It soon became called Oil Town USA and citizens were provided with free natural gas for 90 years.  It gets its name from a Thomas Henry Ball.

Future tenants discover 3 bedroom options in Tomball that can lease under $1000 per month and 2 bedrooms which lease around the $700’s. Tomball rentals are cheaper and public transportation doesn’t really exist. So be prepared to drive to and from your home daily.

Tomball Highways and Thoroughfares

Like many of the smaller cities surrounding Houston, its huge population growth (over 11,000 today) came in the 1990’s.  That doesn’t seem like too big a figure does it? Well, the locals like it that way. They like the peace and quiet. Don’t forget about privacy. There is only one way to Houston, and that’s using Highway 249. Locals refer to it as the Tomball Parkway. There are current plans in the works to extend the highway all the way to College Station.

Popular Tomball Restaurants

Although the city is small compared to other areas, it does have its own share of great food and attractions that can entertain the entire family.  Mel’s Country Cafe is known for its American cooking.  They also have great daily and nightly specials. Hamburgers and steak platters are some of the more popular dishes.

If you enjoy authentic cuisines, Rancho Grande Mexican Restaurant is a great spot to hang out with friends and family. Make sure you try the fajitas. Also Monday and Tuesday they have margarita specials.  If you are willing to drive a short distance, you will have myriad dining options at your fingertips.

Houston is not far away (about 35 miles). If you want a night on the town or just want to do some shopping, the Galleria and Memorial City Mall are both within reach.  The Woodland apartments and Spring apt rentals are also a great choice. The Woodlands Mall and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion are 2 popular destinations for shopping and entertainment. The sheer size of  Houston sure does give a perspective on how small Tomball really is.

Pupils attend schools in the Tomball Independent School Districts. The only high school is Tomball High School. However, there are several private schools in the area.  Tomball rental homes are also in close proximity to Lone Star College.

Renting Tips

Be sure to speak with your leasing agent about utility bills. Summers are hot here and can drive up your electricity usage. You might prefer to rent properties  with energy efficient construction,  or an apartment in Tomball with all bills paid. When you spot that rental you love, be sure to have all of your paperwork ready.  Rentals usually require a method of payment and property identification and pay stubs, so you can get approved fast.

Types of Accommodations

The truth is there are only a handful of Tomball accommodations that actually have a Tomball address. The good news is that this makes for an easy search.  This city northwest of Houston has become a great option for many families and those just getting started. There are also private rentals and such as condos and townhomes for rent in Tomball that also might meet your needs. For this, you might want to use the services of a real estate agent who specializes in the area.

If you are open to houses for rent in Tomball, you should know that usually the renter is required to put up the first and last month’s rent. And the security deposit for a private house can be as much as one month’s rent.

One main advantage of renting in Tomball is the low down payments for deposits and application fees.  In order to be approved quickly, you will need to submit an application, have good rental history, meet the income requirements of the community in question, and also pass a criminal background check. These are petty standard for most complexes in the state of Texas.

Whats not to love about Tomball!  The area is affordable. Prospective renters will find cheap rentals that are much less expensive than their Houston counterparts. On the downside, you’re going to use your vehicle quite a bit. If you work in Houston then driving time will be longer than you like.

It’s not like Tomball is the epicenter of fun. But many locals like it that way.
