Plano TX City Guide

Plano, Texas is located north of Dallas and has its share of larger rentals. This expansive suburb has a copious amount of older properties, and well as newer ones. This means that price ranges for apartments in Plano TX will vary from one community to the next.  The first item on your list is to determine what type of community best suits your needs.

Plano is perfect for residents looking to put some roots down. With lots of large homes, award-winning schools, and a suburban type atmosphere, you can’t go wrong living here. Looking for a city with a low cost of living close to employment centers, and boast strong safety record?  You cannot go wrong here. But if you are looking for lots of hot spots, trendy restaurants and bars, you will need to look elsewhere.

Located in North Texas, you’re not going to see the snow much at all. The summers are hot and you can even wear shorts in the winter. This is happily welcomed by residents you are moving here from the northern states.

How to get around Plano

If you working near the Downtown Dallas area, you will be happy to know that the DART will travel to and from Plano. That sure is nice; as you won’t need a vehicle to commute to and from Plano on a daily basis. But you really will need your own vehicle if you live here. Very few cities (Texas) are completely walk-able. There are long stretches of highways around Plano and a car or truck is a must. The good news is, there isn’t much traffic. And getting home fast is a bonus.

Where to Find Accommodations

If you driving around looking for Plano listings for rent, be sure you know they may be on both sides of the freeway. But the nicer side is definitely West. So if you enjoy the finer retailers and establishments, you might want to focus on this side. Apartments in Allen and McKinney make a great choice. They are located due north and may provide some additional options.

If you are moving from out of state, you should know that Plano is hot. Highs will reach around the high 90’s and even the 100’s during the summer months. So you can expect to pay a little more for utilities. You should also know that Plano is on both sides of Highway 75.

Parks and Recreation in Plano

If you really enjoy your green-spaces, you will enjoy two of the large parks like Bob Woodruff Park and Oak Point Park. The latter park includes a system of trails and loops that connect to other trails in the area such as Santa Fe Trail and the Oak Point Park Trail. It’s great for those of you who enjoy biking trails, walking and running. And don’t forget about nearby lakes, golf courses, and plenty of other outdoor activities.

Rental Types

If you do choose an older Plano rental that was constructed in the 70’s or 80’s, be prepared for some maintenance issues. Older Plano rentals always do. And sometimes landlords don’t move so fast.  So become very familiar with your Plano lease. If you can, try and lease something newer.  You see, newer Plano rentals are going to have the latest amenities. Interested in renting homes? This is where you may want to contact a realtor.

Apartment Pricing In Plano

In terms of rental pricing, you can secure a 2 bedroom apartment  in Plano under $1000. But keep in mind these properties are going to be built before 1980. If you want something more recent, you can pay up to $1600 and over for a new luxury counterpart. Want the cheapest Plano apartments? Check for studio floor-plan options. Remember your bedroom and living quarters share the same space in this latter option.

Renewing Apt Leases

If you plan on renewing your apt lease, you should know that your Plano rent will probably be going up. And this is even more true with newer ones. However, many of these luxury options will offer you a move in special of some sort. They just increase their rates after your lease term has expired. Remember that there are many older all bills paid Plano rentals in the city as well.

Best Neighborhoods in Plano

West Plano is the more wealthy side.  If you want to be grouped with the more affluent, this is the side that’s for you. Collin Creek Mall is home to Sears and Victoria’s Secret. The Westside showcases lavish homes. Some subdivisions homes go for over $800,000. You are going to notice luxury vehicles on the streets like BMW’s and Mercedes.

East Plano has its own character. It’s home to a combination of unique retail shops and restaurants.  This section of town was originally a farming town and features a litany of parks and trails. It also has been ranked as one that is very dog-friendly.

Remember that there is more to Plano than just homes, big brand stores, and highways. The city has really come a long way. Now it boasts an arts district, plenty of culture, and are just two more reasons why many renters are calling this neighborhood their permanent home.
