The Woodlands TX City Guide
Only a short community of about a 30 minutes from Downtown Houston, The Woodlands, TX offers a grand life. Residents get access to shopping centers, concert venues, and great restaurants. Apartments in The Woodlands just might be the perfect setting. The good thing about living here is that you will have many different types of living options. There are all types of places to rent such as condos, townhouse, luxury apartments, and private homes. Studios as well as 1-3 bedroom floor-plans will be available at most communities. “Green Living” has also made its way here!
From its name, you can guess this city is heavily wooded. This is about as far away as you can get from the big city of Houston without totally leaving the best parts of what it has to offer. The Woodlands offers hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails. There is no shortage of parks either. They number well over 100 and include hundreds of miles.
Rentals in The Woodlands
Many rentals will offer many amenities and other luxurious accommodations like large walk closets, spacious floor plans, and state of the art gymnasiums to name a few. Rents here have surged over time like many of the suburbs surrounding Houston. Complexes are offering great concessions, especially if they are new. These will come in the form of free rent, specials, and discounted rents. You can even pay your rent online! If this is still to0 high, you might want to search just up the road.
Popular Neighborhoods with Residences
Like any city, it can be further broken down into districts or neighborhoods. And this is very true here.
If The Woodlands ever had a downtown, this would be it. Town Center has 1000 acres of dining, retail shops, and lots of entertainment. If you enjoy an urban feel, then this will be the top choice. It’s a combination of townhomes, streets, office buildings, and more. Town Center also includes notable points like The Woodlands Mall and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. It’s also home to many festivals and activities suitable for the entire family.
If you desire something on the opposite end of the spectrum, then Indian Springs might be just for you. It’s a much smaller and less trafficked area that includes mostly homes. This village gets its name from a local Indian tribe that once occupied the area. This is perfect for those of you who desire something a little more remote and off the beaten path.
Transportation in the Woodlands
You will need an automobile if you decide to call this city your new home. It’s not a very walkable city. There are two highways major highways that transport you to and from the city. I-45 is usually heavily congested and is a large source of transportation. Another option will be the Hardy Toll Road. The Woodlands Express Park and ride offers 3 different pick-up locations and several drop-off points around the city of Houston. However, there is some public transportation in and around Town Center.
Choosing Private Accommodations
Searching for you next rental can be a job in itself. That’s why it’s always a good idea to have some extra resources to assist you. Remember Woodlands has all types of rentals. And options and variety are a good thing. You might have the option to live on a golf course. There are also brownstones and even lofts. If you want to rent private, it’s best to hire a realtor. The main drawback to private apts is the higher deposit that the landlord will require. You might also be interested in a private room for rent in a larger home.
So you probably want to know how much you should budget for rentals. Rentals start around the mid $800’s and go up from there. Some of them are well into the $1000 range. And that’s for a 1 bedroom floor plan. It’s gonna be hard to find a cheap apartment in The Woodlands. 2 bedrooms are starting out at $1200 and up. Studios are usually the cheapest, but you won’t have much luck since they are hard to find. If you want cheaper rentals, look farther south in Houston or check Conroe. Spring apt complexes offers some competitively priced rental options. But if you can swing the higher pricing, then The Woodlands will make a perfect choice. Furnished apartments will cost an arm and a leg.
But when compared to larger metro cities like New York, it’s really affordable here. This frees up your extra income for other options like entertainment, trips, and restaurants.
Woodlands Bark Parks
Become familiar with the dog parks. Although many apartment complexes now include dog pars on-site, they aren’t as big as the real thing!
Bear Branch Dog Park: This 2-acre park has sections for both large and small dogs.
Quick Rental tips
If you plan on commuting from here to downtown, you better buckle up and be prepared for some serious traffic. Rush hour won’t be your friend.
Before you sign your lease, be sure and ask your leasing agent about utility bills. Summers here are blazing hot, and you can expect that you will be using a lot of air conditioning to cool you down. Here is a tip. Try renting a home on the first floor. Another method is simply to find a roommate if you can. Not only will your bills be less, you can rent a nicer place!
If you are looking for tons of acreage, that includes tall pines, bike paths, and a multitude of outdoor options, The Woodlands might be exactly what you are searching for. It’s a great destination for individuals who love activity. With dogs parks, hiking options, lakes, and tennis and basketball courts, you really don’t have an excuse to stay indoors here on a sunny day.
